DiscoveryZone - world class Learning Management now
available from KiwiSchools
KiwiSchools is now truly a "one stop shop"
for schools seeking online systems for communication,
teaching and learning.
DiscoveryZone is the latest addition to the KiwiSchools
family, and it's a fully-featured LMS or learning management
system.
Schools are familiar with SMS's for managing student
records. LMS's, also known as VLE's for virtual learning
environment, extend the boundaries of the classroom
so that teaching and learning can take place virtually
anywhere, anytime.
"We've based DiscoveryZone on Moodle," says
Paul Stuart, KiwiSchools CEO. "Moodle is a absolutely
world class technology. It's already in use by hundreds
of thousands of learners in over 100 countries around
the world, and in 70 plus languages."
Not surprisingly, New Zealanders are among the most
enthusiastic adopters of new learning technology, and
there is already a well established Moodle community
here.
DiscoveryZone is based on open-source technology. This
means two things: there's a global community for the
technology, and, significantly, that there's no licence
fee. However, as with any sophisticated system, hosting,
management, maintenance and staff training are all essential
prerequisites to a successful implementation, and that's
what KiwiSchools will provide.
DiscoveryZone will be integrated with
KiwiSchools' well established website and intranet systems,
and will always be fully supported with Start2Finish.
Intermediate
Schools choose KiwiSchools intranet
Congratulations to the Association of Intermediate and
Middle schools for their choice of KiwiSchools' intranet
as their communication, collaboration and resource-sharing
platform.
Any Tech Angels at
your school?
We've all heard the story of the confused adult talking
to the computer technician on the phone, getting nowhere
until the tech asks "Do you have a child in the
house?"
What an opportunity! Your school is full of children
- some of whom will be competent (even distressingly
so!!) when it comes to computers. They're potentially
your Tech Angels. We like this term because it gives
both the angels and teachers permission to seek and
provide tech support. Win-Win!
We'll compile Tech Angels guides with your help - one
each for the children and the staff - so if you already
have an Angel at your school, do tell us how they help
at your school. Please include their age so we can develop
a profile of realistic age-related tasks.
If you don't have an angel, but would like to talk to
staff in a school where they're working well, contact
us
